Egyptian Oud

Hi all.
I am selling this full sized EgyptianOud, one that I recently purchased, because I have another fine one already, and I bought this one on impulse, without consulting my...er...wife.
I guess for now one will have to suffice.
The gentleman I bought it from relayed the following info;
In is a full sized professional Egyptian Oud, the body is made of wood called "Egyptian chicken eye."
The maker was one who hand crafts ouds for professionals, (see label, in Arabic) and this one was made in the late 80's, and was selected and purchased in Cairo for $675.
It is quite loud and the tone is clear, and the action is nice and low.
The tuning pegs are ebony, and the nut is bone.
-And, for those who care for such things, it is VERY fragrent wood (I cannot stop sticking my nose by the rosette.)
It is in fine shape, and seems to be perfect apart from a few small pieces of 'mother of pearl inlay' that have fallen out of the decorative perimeter on the face of the instrument. It has small dots by the side of the fingerboard for those who are used to frets, to help guide the fingers to the appropriate pitches.
It comes with a soft gig bag.
I thought I would post it here before trying ebay.I am asking $400, plus shipping. (Please only contact me if you are willing to pay this price).
I have other pix and a sound file I will post if I can figure this out.

Hi noudist,

Are those actually frets that I see on the face leading up to the rosette?

Salamat,

Musa:
No- They are just visual indications of where the frets would be to help one play in tune.
Regards!

Hi Noudist,

Those simulated frets are interesting. I don't recall seeing that before. They seem like a good idea - indicating the proper playing positions without limiting transitions, as would be the case with actual frets. It's sort of a combination of being fretless and fretted.

My Eyptian oud, which was restored by Viken Najarian, has playing positions on the finger board indicated by mother-of-pearl decorations on the neck.

Salamat,

Musa

Hi.
I am in Los Angeles- I assume shipping would cost about $40.
I hope this helps. All the best!
