Nevres Bey's leather Mizrab, was bird's quill risha...

reading the interesting posts about the bird's quill plectrums got me thinking 2 things. One was "hey, that's neat, i wanna try". the other was that I read in CD liner notes that the (incredible, musical, superhuman) Udi Nevres Bey used some sort of piece of leather for his mizrap, mizrab, risha, plectrum, whatever you want to call it. does anyone have a clue as to what this thing could have been like?

whatever it was, he sounds amazing when he plays.

I've seen thick pieces of leather being used for hardcore Croatian style tambura bass. probably about 7-8 mm thick.
