Instruction book
Hello All, I am a new oud player/student and would like peoples input on a good oud
book. I am a guitar player at present and am
fairly well versed in reading. would like to find
a book easily obtained in Canada.
Thanks

re: Books
Hi Jim
As far as I know there are no books in English on playing the oud. The book that I see recommended the most is the one by Mutlu Torun, but it's
in Turkish (tho' I believe it's being translated). For more info see David Parfitt's web-site:
http://website.lineone.net/~david.parfitt/books.html
I also come from a guitar background and have been learning the oud for about 6 months now just using resources I've found on the web.
The site you're currently on has good info and some useful instructional videos that you can download.
David's site (above) has good theory stuff as does Brian Prunka's site:
http://www.brianprunka.com/oud/index.htm
Also valuable is:
http://www.maqamworld.com/
Hope this helps and good luck!
regards
Michael
