Visit from Mavrothis

Mavrothis was in town a couple weeks ago and we spent a nice Sunday afternoon doing a little oud sampling. It was very nice to hear Mavrothis play my ouds, and to hear them again "from the front" and played by such an accomplished player as Mav. He was in town for a residency at a local arts center in collaboration with other east-coast artists. It wasn't typical "oud" music, but Mav's playing during the performance was impressive, and really added to the event. His Dimitris oud was also a pleasure to play. Beautiful work and sound. Thanks Mav for stopping by and honoring me with your playing!

I was just going through the project for the sandwich-top the other day and was wondering how it is sounding like at the moment .... wow! And #2 .... what #2 - they're all #1, man! :-)

As compliments for crafstmanship and the playing seem almost audacious, I can only say thanks to Jameel and Mavrothis for this.

Best regards,
Hamid

Wow. Mav, nice risha skills. I really like how the oud accentuates the slide up the neck, too.

Jameelo... no words for the ouds. Just awe.

I think both of you should come by and visit again.

Hey,

Jameel, it was my pleasure to spend time with you and your great family, and of course to play your instruments. They are really amazing, especially knowing that you have only made 3!!! Unbelievable!!! Your compliments are too much, but I think it's a great idea for us all to get together again. And yeah, this site is really amazing, so many good things have come my way just through the forums, not to mention all the info and projects we get to be a part of.

:)

Let's get together again soon!

Take care,

mavrothis

hey mav,
your playing is always so beautiful, man. you have a very interesting mix of influences in your touch on the instrument, and it seems to me that you combine the greek and arabic styles with near perfection. not to mention the amazing oud you were playing, huge compliments to jameel on such beautiful craftmanship. my late teacher trusted jameel to work on his instruments, and in my mind that speaks volumes to his talent. its so nice to see that we can get together and share our instruments and tunes.
i hope to connect with you when i play in brooklyn later this month, the locations and times are posted on our website, http://www.okbari.org and http://www.myspace.com/okbari. it would be a great pleasure to meet you.
mabrouk on such great playing!

Thanks Amos,

I really appreciate it. It's hard not try and sound a little Arabic on an Arabic oud, especially the great ones that have come from Jameel's workshop.

Please call me when you are coming into town. I would love to meet and to hear your band play.

Thanks again, and good luck with your upcoming shows. :)
