Arminak DerBitrossian?
Anybody happen to know anything about this maker? There's a picture of one of his ouds on Nazih's site: http://www.oudnazihghadban.com/users/special.asp

Any relation to Garabed DerBedrossian??

No. Look at the label.
Its irrelevant, though, because it is an attempt to use English (or Arabic) letters to approximate the sounds that would ordinarily be written in
another language (in this case, Armenian). On the label, it is DerBitrossian, not DerBedrossian. However, these could very easily be the same name.

Hi Jonathan,
I just asked an armenian colleague about this and he told me that it is the same name and that it is normal to find it written both ways :
Bittrossian or Bedrossian, it is due to differences between Armenia's armenian spelling and the rest of the world armenian, he also says that even if
written with a "T" it is still pronounced more like "D".
What is odd is the difference in the first name.

It's a beautiful looking oud whoever made it - I love the star. I've seen a couple of Bedrossians on Nazih's site in the past and they are very
tempting - they have a lovely curve to the base of the bowl. Shat lav

Thanks, guys. There were a couple of well-known DerBedrossians-- Garabed and Smpad. I wonder if Arminak is part of this same family?

Really did not want to post on this but I really don't think Harry is related to this oud maker. I had known Harry's uncle and family ( like an
extended family) for over 50 years and have known Harry for years and no one has ever mentioned any relationship.

BTW, the Der in Der Bedrossian indicates there was a priest in the family and very unlikely that the Der would be dropped to just Bedrossian since
having a priest in the family was an honor. In Armenian we call a priest Der Der which I think is an informal usage.
