Congratulations on your new oud dubai244. It looks beautiful. And as it is made by the great master Nazih Ghadban, a wonderful sound is assured.

Your collection of fine instruments is growing quickly. You must be faced every day with the hard decision of which one to play.

Enjoy them all in good health.

Regards,

Greg

i wonder if this is black african wood "mpingo". The wood of my oud is probably mpingo also.
I do not know much on woods but i believe that the quality of the wood is better when the veines are very parallele.

Hi Zal,

You are right bout the Veins, plus Dark solid woods (in general) has better sound reflection than lighter color and soft woods. That's why i choose this black wood.

Having said that, that doesn't mean other woods are not good. it depends on maker skills how to use these woods and grantee the sound quality, regardless the wood color or hardness of the wood.

Thanks

Wow! Mabrouk! Very lovely oud. I'm looking forward to hearing this one in action as well... I used to play bagpipes and the high-quality ones were always made from African blackwoods because they produced superior tone. I'm interested to see how that translates to the oud. Salaam!

Congratulations on your new oud Dubai, it's stunning. Your playing has a lovely 'sweep' to it, very open, relaxed and romantic. I really like your style.

Thank you.
Did you play with the original strings?? Who is the maker?.
What is the iraqui style tuning??

Hi,

Thanks all of you know, appreciated.

I am really glad that i have this oud, it looks really nice and sound is really amazing. I wish you same oud or better ....

Zalzal, Orginal strings are Aqiula. They are very good but doesn't suit the iraqi tuning. Iraqi tuning is an octave higher than the normal tuning. Soon i will order "pyrmid" strings, they sound much better.
Currently, i am using "Crystal" Strings, they are good and still have some issues, high tension and the tune keep changing.

Iraqi Tuning from Top String to Bottom Strings:
FA
DO
RE
SOL
DO
FA

sorry i dont know how to transilated to ABC ..!!

Anyway, The maker is Mr.Nazih Ghadban, One of best oud maker in this world.

Thanks
