Turkish oud for sale - 30 yrs old

Hi,

For anyone that is interested, I have a very nice oud from the maker Vasfi Çınlar (Vasfi Chinlar) from Izmir, finished December 28, 1978 for sale. Under the maker's label inside the oud there is another ticket which reads: "Special Order for Esber Koprucu" - Esber Köprücü was a very respected Kanun player based in the US.

To my eye the body looks to be made of mahogany and walnut, top is very good quality spruce (no cracks), fingerboard is rosewood, and pegs are ebony. This instrument plays extremely easily and has absolutely no buzz, and it is humid today as I write this.

The only things not original on the oud as far as I know are the pegs and pickguard, which were replaced by Peter Kyvelos.

The only negative sign of wear that I can find on the oud is a small chip on the pegbox which is pictured below. Nothing to worry about.

The sound is very clean and even, with good projection and very sweet midrange and trebles. A very sweet sounding instrument across all the courses. It reminds me of the oud sound in 1960's and 1970's recordings from Turkey, a very wooden and vintage sound.

The price is $1400 including a hard case. Shipping is extra, and anyone in the NY/NJ area is welcome to try it out.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks!

Close-up of face, and pegbox.

The small chip in the pegbox has an arrow pointing towards it.

Video

Here is a quick video made with this oud so you can get a good idea of the tone quality and its projection.

Oud Video Clip

Very nice sound I think.

Note - There seems to be an electronic noise around the 1:00 minute mark, that is just the mic being overloaded with a strong note. I was just using my computer to record this, so nothing high tech I'm afraid.

I hope you enjoy the oud's sound.
