Oud making in Egypt.
Note that I am a Westerner and musician.a long term resident in Cairo and will act as agent for anyone wishing to purchase an Egyptian oud.I do this
on a non-profit basis to ensure that the tradition of oud making here is kept alive.I am working with selected makers
to improve and beautify their instruments
via the usage of a wider range of different
decorative materials and a historical reference to archaic Islamic forms.

Thanks for your query. The situation is that Egyptian oud makers have not taken on board any improvements or innovations for many years, probably
since the mid-1950s. Consequently, I have an uphill struggle trying to convince them to implement changes that will enhance their image and improve
their business globally. Primarily, we are trying to work with Gamil Georges to convince him to use new materials and designs to potentially create
superior instruments. However, trying to change old habits isn't easy. Therefore, we are looking at using other makers here that we deem capable
of incorporating some of the changes that we think will benefit them. For instance, Gamil uses primarily palisander for the body of his superior
models but we are suggesting alternative woods that may give the required resonance. If you require further information, please get back to me.
