hello, i understand that this forum is for oud's, but i was looking for somebody who knows what is a good size for a dumbek in inches (if it even matters), and if it is a good idea to order from mid-east.com. thank you for listening to my question.

A 10 inch diameter is the de facto 'standard'.

Mid East manufacturing has some good products - especially for student-grade drums, but IF you can get a chance to play an instrument before you buy it, you will be much happier in the long run - especially if you continue with the instrument.

The standard doumbek head sizes are (not including the hoop)

8" - Very small and not widely used. Good for small hands (so I have heard)

8 5/8-3/4" - This is the most common doumbek head size.

9" This is Sumbati size. They are getting very popular.

10 1/4 ' is a doholla. Mostly used as a bass drum.

Mid-east has decent enough stuff for starting out and a good return policy if you don't like what you get. Buy through amazon which has a bunch of Mid-east resellers. You will get a better price.
