Share Algerian - Berber Oud Player/Singer ... Brahim TAYEB
Hi folks,
Would like to share some Oud sounds/rythms from an Algerian singer : Brahim Tayeb
He plays Oud, continues to play Western Guitar (a bit less), mixes Maqams with different beats/rythms like Latin, warm voice and and good heart ... a
wise man and respected by the people who discovered him.
Like Stevie Wonder, he is "dis-abled", ... but NOT blind ;-))

Interesting point, if I may try to give my view on this ...
even if I am a new here ... let others say what they also thinks about Brahim.
Idir was first to play classic guitar (accords) in Amazigh Music in Algeria/North-Africa : a pioneer
On other side, Idir did all kind of good arrangements .. but NEVER included Oud ... some are "ALLERGIC" to these sounds + rythms = Orient, not me
please.
There are other very well respected Amazigh composers that were very successful with having Oud (Cherif Kheddam, Kamal Hamadi, ... or now Souad Massi
and Khaled ). The old ones happened to meet other musicians in Paris (fifties), musicians from Irak, Egypt, ... or other north African regions like
Nuba/Andalus from Morocco/Algiers ... etc.

Wow actually I didn't think about that political aspect which can explain a lot the lower influence of Arab music on Amazigh music (as in language,
usually French is preferred than standard Arabic in Kabyle written expression, when they don't use the Amazigh language).

Snitra maybe I didn't express myself as I meant. I didn't want at all to delve into other topics than music! I just understood you actually said that
some Amazigh musicians like Idir prefered harmonic musical instruments like guitar for some reasons linked to their political situation.. It is what I
understood from your post.
But I don't want at all to enter to polemics as it is not the forum for that, fortunately. We are all here from different national or religious
backgrounds so there is no point in starting talking about other things than oud and music, of course.
