Performances by the Maeandros Ensemble

The Maeandros Ensemble, led by oud player/vocalist Mavrothi Kontanis, recreates the traditional songs of Greece and Asia Minor from the 1920s-1940s. The program features many songs originally performed by the most recognizable names of the time, including Antonios Dhiamantidis, Roza Eskenazi and Rita Abadzi, along with music from the Ottoman repertoire. Kontanis is joined by clainetist Lefteris Bournias, violinist Megan Gould, and percussionist Timothy Quigley. This event is one in a series of performances brought together by the Silk Road Project, which take place within the "Traveling the Silk Road" exhibition at AMNH every Sunday afternoon through August 15, 2010.
