3 rosewood oud
I'm in the process of building 2 new ouds myself, the other one is being made by my friend Majid Atik in Morocco
the first one is Honduran Rosewood (Dalbergia Stevensonii)
beautiful patterns and I have bookmatched the ribs for the esthetic look. still need lot of scraping and sanding for the bowl.
number 2 is Indian Rosewood, high grade, straight grain.
this one is known to most of the guys here at mikeouds.com
number 3 is Rio Rosewood(Dalbergia nigra). this one will be finished sometimes in Jully.
I will keep this post updated as I progress:

update
I always check how horizontal the neck is. it should be 100% flat and project horizontaly to the back of the oud. this way , when the sound board is
in place, it shoul be flush to the back and the neck.
line number 1 and number 2 should be exactly 90 degree for accurate placement of the fingerboard later.

rosette
the rosette, soundboard are ready.
usualy the rosette is placed as the last part. but this time I have put it inside the oud and used a masking tape to hold it inside. this way when I
finish, I pul it up and glue it to the face from inside.

Nice work Samir, really beautiful.
How do you make sure that the paper you use to enforce the ribs with doesn't wrinkle when you glue it?
Ibrahim.

Ibrahim,
I use a small sponge, wet both the wood and the paper (with hot glue) before glueing it. when the paper is glued, stroke it couple of times with the
sponge to push it to the wood. easy beezy , japanezy..

Samir

Thanks Samir, I will try that and will let you know, my previous attempts have all failed.
I have about 10 strips of paper that are not very smooth and I ended up trimming the bumps. I still have to add 10 more. I even tried two of them with
titebond instead of hide glue and they ended up being worse.
Hopefully I will do it right this time.

Ibrahim,
Never use titebond for the paper or inside the bowl. it will swallow the sound... stik to hide glue...
you can use titebond to join the ribs, but not the paper...

Samir

thanks guys
these are Labella strings FCGDAF (arabic tuning), therse string have higher tension than the normal tuning, which gives the oud more dynamic sound.
