Neck Joint for Guitar

Hello builders,
I have read that some Ouds or Lutes incorporated a neck joint where a tenon of some shape extends from the neck and slides horizontally into the heel block of the body creating an "inline" locking joint. String tension would lock the joint.
I have not seen an example of this, but I really like the idea of the "inline joint", versus a vertical dovetail or mortise/tenon joint.
Does anyone have any information and images of this kind of neck joint?

I appreciate it.
