Ahmed Mohammed Oud Repair and Restore..
So after doing so much reading on this forum, everything from new oud projects to risha techniques i am excited to acutally be writing my first post
(hopefully the first of many)
Ive finally decided to start a restoration project on the first oud I ever got and I needed some advice on the repair as well as finding out if it
truely is a real Ahmed Mohammed oud?
This oud was given to be some 10 years ago and as i didnt know much about makers, build quality, action and so on i just started learning on it and
didnt pay much attention to the details. As i learnt more about the construction and playability I found that the action was quite high and mainly due
to a little motion in the neck which was caused by a small crack at he base of the veneer band. I also noticed that there had been a repair job done
in the past where a rib had cracked probably from a hard knock or drop.
I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who is familiar who this maker and his ouds. I am not sure if it is a genuine Ahmed Mohammed oud but the
label inside indicates that it is but I cannot verify unless someone has one or has seen one with the same label. I have posted a pic of the label,
there are two an old one that has been removed or worn which still shows some information and a new hand written one which has the following written
in arabic:
Made by
Ahmed Mohammed
Address in Sayeda Zenab
Date of build April 1960
I have posted some pics of the oud as well as the neck issue as well as the crack in the rib.
I will be trying to fix the neck and also the cracked rib as well as the separation between the face and bowl in some areas and the beard gap.
