question about floating bridge
Hi
can anyone explain the difference between the structure of a floating bridge and a fixed bridge?
i mean, bracing, scales, etc
suppose that i install a fixed bridge on a floating bridge oud exactly on the same place of it's previous bridge. how will it sound? will it produce
the correct tunes?(ignore the workmanship stuff)
how about the reversed procedure? (installing a floating bridge on a fixed bridge oud)
i ask this coz i need a floating bridge Oud but almost all luthiers in Iran make fixed bridge ouds and their templates are developed for that kind of
oud. i wonder what will happen if they use floating bridge on their ouds...
thanx in advance

The floating bridge oud is different in many ways, changing the bridge on a fixed bridge will not work and may damage the soundboard. The floating
bridge face is thicker, the bracing is placed differently and the inside corners at the edge of the face near the bridge need to be reinforced. The
face itself is bent down to increase pressure over the bridge. Arafati learned oud making from his Iraqi father-in-law, so he may understand the
principle differences.

yea he probably knows but im pretty sure he is not gonna tell me a word.
thanx for your attention and advice, so it's not a good idea to ask luthier to make his regular fixed bridge oud with a floating one thanx anyway
