Rack o' Ouds
Got too many ouds & no where to put them? Hanging on the wall invites disaster, even shelving has risks. It's well known that an oud left in a
case will languish and deteriorate. Stringed instruments benefit from being exposed to musical vibrations, so here's a secure storage option that
keeps your ouds handy, open to receive music vibrations, easy to find and looking good!

Great idea.
What is the material the butt end is sat on? Seeing as I currently have no Oud I won't be making an order but just wanted to express how good an idea
it looks.

Thanks, I've been using this rack in my shop for years, and decided to liberate my finished ouds and set them free to vibrate with whatever music is
playing. It's interesting to hear them hum along.
The botton of the body is cradled between two large wooden dowels, covered with foam rubber used to insulate hot water pipes.

The painting is an original by Kosheleff, '62. I bought it at a flea market/swap meet in Alameda, CA. I won't make copies of someone else's work
without their permission.

Is this a reverence to:" I`ll copy it as soon as I have enough ouds to store" ?

It could be the luthier Frances K, I found no way to verify.

Doktah,
Is that some sort of bagpipe up on the shelf, below and to the right of the oud playing hippie picture?
Nice looking old oud too, in front on the top row.

There are 3 bagpipes on top of the bookcase: one Persian Shirazi ney hanboon/hanbooneh, a Bulgarian Rhodope kaba guida, and a PVC/vinyl yerba/riata
(Arabic bagpipe). The hippie oud player is me in 1976 playing a 1946 Dicran Najarian for dancers in Santa Barbara.
The ouds in the rack are:
top - 1924 Suliman Haddad, 1920 Toufiq Nahhat, my 1978 Haddad replica, and a 1957 George Hanna Nahhat (sold).
bottom - 1924 Hanna Nahhat neshatkar/lavta, my Bashir replica project, 1921 Toufiq Nahhat, and 1966 Mahmood Haddad
Except for the Suliman Haddad, the Hanna Nahhat neshatkar, & the 1957 George Hanna, these ouds are available (when restoration of construction
are completed.

I wonder how many forum members who don't run a shop or a workshop have a sufficiency of ouds to warrant building a rack for them?
I've come on here via the Mandolin Cafe forum, and there are members there who list their (often many) instruments in their signature, and it's quite
enlightening/mind-boggling to one who has just made the leap into obtaining a single beginner instrument! (They refer there to MAS which I
think I've worked out means Mandolin Addiction Syndrome. I imagine there must be a similar OAS disease?)
Of course, it makes absolute sense to acquire more than one oud, and then not to hide one's instruments away in cases etc given how intrinsically
beautiful ouds seem to be (apart from the other considerations cited by Dr. Oud)

If I do my work/art just for fun and not for business reason, it`ll make me proud if someone likes it so much that he wants a copy.
And if the copy is sold for prime costs, I would`t mind.
