change strings

Dear friends,
I am planning to change strings on my (first) oud for the first time after purchasing it half a year ago. Question to the more experienced ones amongst us, especially the "builders": does it make any difference if I remove first all the old strings before starting to put on the new ones or if I change them one by one? Is it a problem for the instrument (change of tension) if I remove them all before putting new ones?

No Sir ! Nothing would happen if you take off the whole set of strings. You'd like to clean the fingerboard, maybe even level it by sanding a bit, by the way. So go on with your plan to change your strings, but make sure you choose the right new set for your oud.
In Qanoun it's vice versa. Removing the whole set could be harmful to the bridge and to the skin underneath it.
Good luck
Yours indeed

Be careful to keep the right peg in the right hole.
I usually put some graphite on it with a simple pencil to make them working smooth.
And above all, take your time. It is an important operation. And if it is well done, your instrument will be easier to tune, better stay in tune, avoid busing...
Good work.

Thank you for your help and tips!
At Microber: how you are putting the graphite on the pegs, you just pencil the pegs' wood directly (as if you want to "write" on it)?
