Trying To Repair An Old Oud
Hi everyone
I am new to the forum... please forgive if I do wrong
I just wanna share with and learn from you respected experts.
At the moment I'm trying to repair an Oud given to me Over 20 years ago by a friend.
I've never heard the original sound of the Oud as it came to me already with the bridge
detached and the the soundboard damaged as in collapse or caved in.
BTW It is hard to get the right materials and parts/tools here.. especially Hide glue.
I had to make do with what I have and can get. Thank you kindly for your attention.
I sincerely hope some of the experts can shed some light on the age/the maker/origin
and can advise whether it is worth to even think about repairing. lol here are

Hope someone can help translate the label or identify this Oud and any additional info about it would be much appreciated. Thanks

The vertical braces in the center and along the sides of the bridge do not belong there. No oud I have ever seen in over 50 years of oud repair has
these braces. These races will inhibit the vibration of the face and diminish the sound of the oud. Vertical braces at the sides of the large rose
hole are ok, because there is no sound produced in this area. Most ouds do not use these vertical braces, only in modern times are they see, probably
influenced by guitar construction which uses this design element.
The brace forward of the bridge should extend across the face, and there are usually two braces forward of the bridge below the small sound holes..
All of the brace ends should fit snugly at the sides, butting to the top ribs. This is important because it is the only means of support for the face.
