Oud
That's my sandwich top oud from Jameel! A really great instrument – beautiful sound and beautiful to look at. Jameel keeps getting better – I
can't wait to see and hear Mike's new oud!

THE END
Hi Guys,
tomorrow will be last day of this mounth and this Maqam presentation. I hope you learned some thing from it. I tried my best to present this maqam in
very simple way so every body can understand it with great examples of this maqam.
I would like to thank following people for thier great contributions:
Beas. One, Greg, SamirCanada, Cyberquills, fyenix, LeeVaris.
Finally, here is my taksim with my Faruk oud, for Ajam maqam and its modulations and maqam which can be played from it. I tried to make it in one

dubai, not only does your Faruk oud sound lovely, but your playing as well. I'm curious my friend, are you self-taught or did you have some good
teachers along the way? sometimes the rest of us don't get around to posting a clip of maqam of the month for different reasons, maybe too lazy, maybe
too busy, maybe we enjoy listening to the takes, and maybe guys like you and Samir are a hard act to follow!

Matthew,
Thanks for the nice words Matthew.
I play oud since i was 11 years old. Now i am 29 years old. Almost 18 years. I have been taught by a music teacher for one year, when i was 17 years
old. I learned from Him "Inverted" Risha and "Position" Techniq - Positions of the fingers deep along the neck of the oud-. and little bit of music
notes.
I listen to every thing that's important, from all around the world. I dont have limit for that.Starting with arabic, turkish, greece, indian music
and end up with Paco De Lucia, Julian William and Mozart and Chopin. I listen to all "Strings" music instrument, i dont limit myself to just oud.
So from this combinations, this how i learned play oud. It is hobby by the way. not as profestion
Thanks

thanks dubai for sharing a bit about your oud playing. I haven't heard of 'inverted' risha technique...can you tell us more about this interesting
sounding technique?

hey Samir thanks for the tip. I did a search and found this link on inverted risha in case anyone else would like to check it out-
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3455#pid229...
I discovered that I have been using 'inverted risha' technique, (up/down and tremelo). I just wasn't aware it was referred to as inverted, or Risha al
Maqluba! All I got to do now is get it sounding like Naseer!

Lee Varis- Sea Nymph
Just been browsing through past stuff and heard this by Lee - really beautiful and sounds completely right on the oud. Sometimes I hear stuff played
on oud that to me is at odds with the instrument's nature, often from more 'Western' musical structures ... this isn't one of them.
Lovely stuff
Cheers
Leon
