Thanks Leon, Ive been so inspired since the meet, hearing you all has helped so much and blondie was cool and suited your style !!!.( for those not
present, blondie is a fine turkish oud and not some foxy chic that Leon brought along). Thanks to Jameel, Oud prof and of course Mike for joining in
this thread, you've all played a part for me, Jameel("The" string supplier who knows what he's talking about), Oud prof(DVD and outstanding sound
clips) and Mike, well what can I say mate?, Its common knowledge you have brought so much pleasure to so many. Michael and Awad demonstrated (
though they are probably unaware of this) the ethnic way of playing the oud, soulful and moving. Hey Owain, how's the Shehata?, reckon you'll be the
first Brit to take the oud to dizzy hieghts, you've a hot line to something mate, incredible you've only been playing a short time. Glad you liked my
Sukar Awad, the range of sounds at the meet gave us all some perspective on oud sound and fine sounds they were. Better sign off for now, I could go
on for ever. Charlie. |
Hi Charlie, thanks for the compliment. Yeah the Shehata is doing really well, I love it even more than before. Everytime I play it and listen to other
Players that I like, I notice it sounds similair to the Ouds they play.
By the way, I don't like to say I have a favorite Oud from all those that I got to play, but your Sukar and Leons Blondie are up there with the best,
what amazing sounds.

Hello Awad
You mentioned you'd have to edit stuff - thinking of it why would you need to? I know the forum is up for anything like this.
enjoy your Eid

Hi Leon, all,
Sorry guys, I was celebrating Eid so haven't uploaded anything as I still have very tasty photos of the event
Leon you know nothing needs editing all the materials are ligit and origional, are you worried about anything mate
I'd made the mistake of my life over the Eid break trying to load a 1.9 GB video to google at once and that meant my PC was trying in vain on my slow broadband for 10 long hours with no joy, so I'll have to do some cuttings to shorten the clips.
So bare with me folks, I am working on it ..
Best Regards
Awad

Hi Awad
Of course I'm not worried, I'm not made like that . If you remember on the day
you said you'd edit the stuff presumably so the file sizes were not so huge. I think the forum are really up for seeing all the stuff, and would be
really interested in Usta Mussa's talk on the development of the oud - brilliant stuff. Awad I love the song you played with Kelly on violin
beautiful heartfelt stuff - you're a wonderful musician!!
Cheers

Sorry mate about the editing bit I hought you meant something else
Do you know Leon we've rcorded nearly two hours 3/4 of it was Mussa's lecture, its going to be a tedious job cutting small chunks and uploading to
google. I'm thinking I'll U2U this thoughts later.. anyway nothing
will be wasted you will see everything, even you getting high on the shesha )
regards to the family,
Best Regards
Awad

Hi all
Here's a very short clip of me on my Tasos Blondie I did this morning just after the girls had gone off to school. The file compression has made the
sound sharper than it actually is but it is a taster for all the stuff Awad has.
Thanks for all your work Awad

Hey hey, that was nice!! Love your style on the fingerboard. Do you play populour Armenian Maqamat? I know all the main Arabic ones (Rast, Saba, Ajam,
Nawahwand, etc...) but I don't know any Turkish or Armenian or any like that.
Keep up the good playing,

Lovely stuff Owain - great feel for microtones already. Maqams are the same for Armenian/Turkish/Greek as far as I know, but up a tone. There is a
different feel and 'way' towards the East. Then you get some players from somewhere in between like Syria and Lebanon who seem to have a mixture of
both sides.
I think we are a warm up act for the rest of the footage
Can you tap dance?? I make a great cup of tea
logging off

I'll try to down/up load something in the next few days. I think last weekends gathering has certainly unleashed some creative juices!

Okay Kelly, you asked for it!!
I make a few mistakes and the playnig is a bit rigid in these (both same Maqams and style)

Great playing Owain. I like the change into Saba.
What recording set up have you got coz the sound is good with a touch of reverb.
