Fixing a crack in my oud.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with some advice here.

Due to some very careless postal workers (who apparently don't understand the defenition of "FRAGILE"), an oud that I purchased brand new, arrived with a crack where the bowl meets the soundboard. The crack runs parallel to the ebony binding (i.e. is a double crack running along either side)

I'm thinking of using clear hide glue in and over the top of the crack, and if I can manage it, placing a re-enforcing hide glue soaked piece of cloth on the inside (if my hand will fit through the sound hole to place it).

Is this the correct approach? does anyone have any reccomendations for better methods?

Here are some pics of the cracks. They go right through the wood.

Thankyou very much for taking to time to read my concern.

Nick

Absolutely right. First step is to put a hide glue to the cracked part of the bowl second push back the cracked bowl side from the sound hole (be sure to get in line) third put some hide glue to to cracked part between face and bowl fourth tape all the cracks same time. good luck. :))

Thanks for the advice man. As soon as the bloody post office send it back to to me (sent it for a damage report in hope I'd be compensated) I'll follow your advice.

Thanks again.
