Issues with tuning on 3rd and 4th strings

Hi there,

I have an arabic oud, not a great quality. I've always tuned my oud to CC GG DD AA FF C. the tuning used to be pretty accurate but recently the two G strings, although tuned perfectly on low register, as soon as they are pressed they don't sound tuned at all. This problem doesn't occur with any of the other pairs of strings only with the 3rd and 4th strings.

What can be the problem?

Thank you
Shlomi.

hi there,

Try swapping one end of your g strings.
E.G. Try reversing one or the other of the two strings

then try it again. I get this sometimes.

Some are not compatible together even they are same gauges.

Can u elaborate further. If u go near the neck does it go out of tune?

or just a specific note or position E.G. (A note or Bb etc.....)

cheers

Hi Shlomi,

ahhh the dreaded GG strings..... lol i've run into this problem before and it was solved when I bought new pyramid 650/ from kalafoud for my oud with a 60cm length from nut to bridge.

how old are your strings? did you ever replace one g-string (lol) and not the other thus having one new and one old? and what type of strings do you use?
