Oud 5, Finally
I can't even remember when I started this--well over a year ago.
My fifth completed oud.
I only changed a couple of things this time around, chiefly having a carbon fiber rod running down the length of the neck and into the neck block
(super strong, and light).
The bracing pattern is the same as my previous four, but somehow, this one is really nice and loud, and I am really liking the sound.
Finally, this one turned out just like I like it--the dimensions are perfect. My last one, with curly maple for the bowl, was beautiful, and sounded
good, but the neck was a bit large.
The one before that, with pink ivory and mulberry, had a bowl that turned out being wider than I like.
This one really feels good.
Two more are on the way in the workshop--one with all koa for the bowl, and the other, just being started, a hanum (lady's) oud.
This oud is Turkish-style, but it is still brand new, so I have the strings tuned down 1 tone--I will tune it up to standard Turkish tuning in a
couple of weeks.

Hye Johnathan,
What a cool sounding oud man, and that's tuned down and fresh off the bench. Congratulations.
Love your wood choices here, the curly walnut's got fantastic grain and color -- offset with the pear and the slightly wider than normal separator
strips really give it a unique look. The maple endcap's an amazing piece of wood..wow. How's the pink one doing ?? Take care...Paul

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. Sorry for the delay--I was away from a computer for a short time.
I will get some pictures of the peg box up shortly.
Paul--the pink one is doing fine but, I have to confess, I spend so much of my freee time trying to build ouds, that I really have not even had a
chance to pick up the pink one to play in quite a while.
I really need to get practicing, again.

Beautiful oud and delicate playing Jonathan - you should be well proud. That central rosette is lovely - is it scalloped in the centres of the
shapes?

Thanks, Leon. The rosettes are my design--I think I am probably going to keep that for all of my ouds. No, it's not scalloped--I love that look, but
I would just lose all of my patience trying to do that.
