looking for a syrian/lebanese buzuk

Greetings to all,

I will be traveling to Lebanon and I am planning on purchasing a buzuk. I am told that Syrian buzuk masters are much better, in fact nobody makes buzuks in Lebanon anymore. So if I can't find anything in Beirut I am considering hoping over to Damascus or Aleppo. But where should I go? What is the price range for a playable, decent buzuk? It doesn't need to be a masterpiece. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi I've heard good things about Samir Azar- I thinks he is based in Homs- try searching threads on this forum.

Happy Hunting

Ibrahim Sukar makes good buzuqs. I have a student model, it's very nice. I have a friend with a pro model who performs and records with it regularly. They're not very expensive, but you might want to call ahead and make sure he will have one on hand for you.

I've heard good things about Samir Azar, but haven't seen anyone play one or tried one myself.

I have a Samir Azar Buzuk and I am quite pleased with it. The scale length is 72 cm. Perhaps Nazih will clarify.

I emailed Nazih and he replied that his most popular Buzuk models are 75 cm. He also makes them in 69 and 63 cm.
