Would appreciate your opinion
Dear friends,
I am faced with a dilemma that requires some wisdom from the elderly and seasoned oudist out here:
A few years ago, I was lucky to buy a professional grade oud that is simply GORGEOUS in terms of looks and sound with one exception:
The pegs are handmade and the workmanship is not as good as the rest of the instrument.

I am pondering whether I should replace the pegs with some higher quality ones:

Some might argue that I shouldn't since it is a pieace of history and I have to preserve.
Some might say "Go for it as long as you feel that it will get closer to perfection"
What do you think?
Thanks,
Hatem

Hi Hatem
Well I'm not elderly or fully seasoned but if it is a real problem, take your oud to a luthier, replace the pegs, but keep the originals safe to
maintain the provenance.
Best wishes for the New Year

Hatem, there is nothing wrong with these pegs. They look pretty decent, they are just basic pegs and not fancy ones. Unless you are having problems
tuning the oud and the pegs are slipping or did break then I wouldn't change anything.

Those pegs looks fine. They probably need to be fitted better, but I don't think they need to be replaced. They appear to me to be viola pegs, so I
doubt they are original to the oud.

Those pegs r fine. If they work OK, I would not change it. At mu Expensive Kamil Mwez oud, pegs look kinda, well, handmade, but they work fine. If you
have a problem with those pegs in tuning (not just psychological ;-), then luthier can change them.

Leon,
Thanks for the comment. Happy New Year to you too.
FastFrward,
I have no issues with their functionality. I just don't like their looks. Thanks for your input.
Brian,
I appreciate your opinion. It is a question of personal preference. I was not happy with the way they look from day one.
Marina,
You may be right about my problem being just psychological ! I will try to "ignore" them for a while...
I stopped by my luthiere’s place and saw REAL nice quality pegs that should match the workmanship of the rest of the instrument. Hiwever, according
to everyone's comments, I should cancel that idea.
Thanks again guys for your valued input.
Hatem
