Maqam of the month

Hey guys, I'd really like to get the maqam of the month post going again. It's very helpful to beginner players such as myself and I get a collection of some pretty cool recordings :D. It would be great if one of the more experienced members could get us started by picking a maqam. Last time, the maqam was nahawand. Thanx in advance

Great, Hijaz sounds good to me. I guess I will take some intiative and say that Hijaz is the Maqam of the month. Please everybody, if you just have 2 minutes, submit your own recording. ( don't make me look bad here :( ) This is a great opportunity for all of us to improve and learn from each other. I will hopefully have my recording up by Thursday.

revaldo29 I beleieve people don't post taqsims
here because there's another topic in the
forum ,it's an old topic
which truepharaoh has opened and
has many taqsims from people in here.
I posted this reply with respect to your topic.
regards.

Thanks for the reply bluesy. I don't know if you are talking about the maqam of the month post, but if you are, that was posted on the main page. I don't think there is a dedicated section for recordings (correct me if i'm wrong).
Bahleh, welcome back. Congratulations on your new oud. It sounds great. Thanx for posting a sound clip, I hope others will too.
About my recording, is it working for anyone at all? David, if it's just you, I can email it to you cause I can't post anything bigger than 1 meg on here.
I look forward to hearing some more recordings soon. Thanx

Any body else want to develop the maqam Hijaz as a song or Taqsim?
I ran accross this thread and... it didnt go too far even tho maqam hijaz is an important maqam. Iam going to prepare a taqasim of my own too and
Hopefully everyone will join this time.
Iam pumped for this one... its about time we hear some oud being played on the forrums.

Nice Emad.. really nice. Could it be that mr. Ashmawy get's his ouds produced by Ustaz Amin?
It would seem a little hard to hold in the pictures is it?
I will get my post ready latter on today.

Adnan.. I dug it up far far into the abyss of posts but now that its back its going to be the shoot :D

Thank you Samir,

Actually this is one of the best and easiest oud I ever held.

I am sure it will improve my poor skills.

I do not know where Mr. Ashmawy gets his ouds from.

Master Fathi Amin ouds are well known. I am not the only one who's got a long neck oud made by him. I bought this oud from the violinest Maged El-Sharony. I am sure you heard of his brother Emad El-sharony the composer of the winning song "Kawkab Thany" or "another planet" sang by Medhat Saleh in qartaj.

Sydney: I really enjoyed your playing. Just added it to my personal library. Excellent precision, feeling and musical depth. I thought the switch and conclusion of the piece to nahawand really interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Taqassim Hijaz

Alright folks,

Here is my humble offering. I agree with samir, its great to have these threads back. I hope to hear some criticism from the more experienced players oud there. There isn't much of a point in posting if no one points out your mistaes.

That was nice Adnan. You can truly hear the difference between your playing here and the one above. Iam trying to get sharper more precise notes when I play up the fingerboard. Iam sure you notice where Iam rather off tone when I played the really high notes up my fingerboard.
The main problem is when I look up the maqam Iam playing in first then I figure out the notes down the neck on my c string. but when in a taqasim you never know wich maqam comes next :D so I get the intervals messed up. Especialy when doing the verry fast farid al atrache part when he finishes the Awal hamza taqasim.

Hijaz Andalus

OK... so here's my humble offering.. a bit sloppy but hey... its not a proper taqasim and it sort of devolves farily quickly into a sort of flamenco-esque jam - 1 take... I'm still learning.

I like it Lee! I find you have your own style in all your recordings.
And of course it shows your guitar background comming trough.
Let me guess that sounds like a Fouad Jihad oud. Right?
Great to hear everyone playing some oud again!!
