best 'toilet seat' style electric oud?
outside of the Najarian, which is out of budget range, im looking at these three models:
The sukar;
The Morad Turki;
and "Saleh from Shefaram" via arabinstruments.com .
it will need to accomodate a 7 course set up, ideally in 13 strings, though the two bass courses could be singles, for a 12 string set up. Both the
Sukar and the Turki appear that they can work for a 12 string setup. I dont believe the Saleh is.
I imagine if I want a 13 string setup, id have to work with the builders directly (cant find any contact info on Turki or Saleh).
Here are the pros and cons for me as i see it:
The Morad Turki seems to sound the best from various you tube clips, and while i prefer pegs, the gears with the traditional pegbox idea i can live
with. The Saleh doesnt sound bad, but pretty heavily compressed on the demo clip form arabinstruments.
not fond of the fingerboard wood on the Sukar.
Sukar and Turki have onboard volume and EQ controls; not clear from pics or demo if the Saleh does.
The Saleh looks nice, and the ebony fingerboard a real plus.
From those whove played any or all or some of these, can you share your thoughts and experiences? Especially in terms of overall build quality,
electronics sound and quality, and especially playability? hows the action, setup, and overall feel?
thx!

Hi Stefan,
I haven't owned an electric oud but there may be something else to consider...
The Sukar is 62.5 cm
The Turki is 60 cm &
The Saleh is 59 cm.
unless you are one of those who can jump from one string length to another with no intonation problems.
I'm not unfortunately, I think I'll probably end up making my own.

Good point, i ihadnt thought of scale length.
My Fadel Iraqi oud is 58.5, but i also play a fretless guitar at 65, so i can usually adjust. Still, it would be nice to keep the ouds closer to each
other....
