Sibelius? Finale? Your thoughts?
Hi folks
Does anyone use the music programs Sibelius or Finale? If so, what are your thoughts on them? Which is more useful for Arabaic music?
I'm looking to buy one or the other program and would love to hear of the softwares from fellow Oudi's.
Cheers

Hello CQ,
I was given a Sibelius demo by a great music professor while visiting Egypt. It is a VERY powerful package that has all kinds of excellent
utilities.
I would definitely recommend it.
I had an older version of Finale. It did not have the same features. However, the version was way older than the Sibelius.
Good Luck,
Hatem

I use Finale, but I started back in 1998 with it and I'm also obsessive about notation so I don't mind spending extra time getting things perfect.
From what I understand, Sibelius is much easier to learn and get good results with (Finale can create amazing results, but it takes quite a bit of
work and knowledge of notation standards). It also has better built-in support for microtonal music, such as Arabic or Turkish music.
Finale can work with microtones; it's not hard to get the notation to work, but playback takes some wizardry and I gave up on that part of it.
I think most people are better off with Sibelius.

Hatem and Brian,
Thanks ever so for your advice. I think Sibelius will be the program I'll go for, s'long as it can handle Middle Eastern notation.
