Many thanks to you russianoudi and michoud.
Rawhi Khammash was a Palestinian (born in 1923), and started playing music almost seriously at age 7. When he was ~11 years old, he performed (sang !)
on stage in front of the great musician and violinist Sami Shawwa, and was greatly appraised for that. Another booster came a year later, when he met
Om Kulthoum in Yafa, and sang a monologue originally composed by Mohammad Qasabji. I think that's when he got hooked to the Egyptian school of music,
and was sent on a scholarship to Egypt in 1937 to the school of arts and music in Cairo. He then graduated and came back and worked both in music and
farming (his family's major venue). He then fled to Baghdad in 1948 and stayed there till the day he passed in 1998 (August 30th.). That's why one can
tell he absorbed from the best musicians in Egypt as well as the classic Turkish and Iraqi school of music mainly established by Sherif Muhyiddein
Haidar. He taught at the music academy in Baghdad and formed several bands, one of which was the great "Khumasi Al Funoon Al Jamilah" (Fine Arts
Quintet Band), including himself on oud, Ghanim Haddad (violin; born in 1925); Salem Hussein Al-Ameer (qanun; born in 1923), Hussein Qaddoori (cello;
1934-2006), and Hussein Abdullah (riqq/percussion; 1905-1982).
His work in music has long been described as highly academic, and somewhat strict in many ways, yet highly passionate and orchestral. He has other
great Semais as well (Ajam and Hijaz Kar Kurd/Kurdili Hicaz Kar).
I was honored to meet his older sister years back and have a look first hand on some of his amazing legacies, and also play his famous 7-course oud
(by Mohammad Fadel; 1977)....such a great vibe !
Attached is a picture of him along with some great oud artists (Raed Khoshaba, Khaled Mohammad Ali, and others) taken in 1997 at the Babel
Festival.
Kindest regards,

People for sure recorded a lot for him whenever he played
I do have several of his recordings, and can probably upload some here sometime (they're too large, need some work).
All the best,
