Buying an Oud
Hi there, I'm interested in buying an Oud as a student studying Jazz at university in New Zealand. However, my biggest problem is that I am in New
Zealand, and noone here seems to stock Ouds that I can go play.
In my position, what you do? I am a new player that would like to keep my purchase to about $700NZD shipped, and at the moment I am looking at online
dealers. Who would be the best and most reliable online dealer?
Thanks all,
Milan

Hi Milan,
Welcome to the forums.
I have a couple of unplayed 'model 3' ouds made by the late Haluk Eraydin (Turkey). They owe me around US$600 each, but maybe we can work something
out.
At the current rate of exchange, NZ$700 is around US$575. Shipping of a suitably boxed oud from Brisbane to Auckland, would be around US$160 (I have
an account with TNT and regularly ship electronic products to NZ).
Let me know if you are interested.
There are also some online sellers who are reputed to be reliable. Others on this forum will be able to provide details of their individual
experiences.
Regards,
Greg

Here are some photos of the Haluk Eraydin model 3 ouds.
These are standard Turkish sized ouds. The bowls are Wenge and Rosewood and the ebony pegs are 'Paris Eye'. They were made by Haluk in 2006. I
purchased with the intention of re-selling, but have never bothered to advertise them. So they have sat in their soft cases on my office shelves for
the past six years (with strings removed).

I'm not entirely sure whether I want arabic or Turkish at the moment... I understand that Turkish can be typically tuned to Arabic though?
Does anyone have recent dealings with arabInstruments.com?
