A day in my teacher's studio
Hi all. For the last week I've been in Toronto Canada doing basically an oud bootcamp with my old teacher Bassam Bishara. It's a wonderful feeling
when you play something for your teacher and get a list of things to work on; you actually feel like you know where you're going. Anyway, today we
spent some time in his home studio doing rough takes of some pieces. Here they are for your listening pleasure. The oud is my Michael Moussa Gamil
Georges replica. You'll notice some of the oud tracks are doubled or octaved to enhance the atmosphere and we've got some cheesy but surprisingly
effective keyboard beats for backing.

bravo ameer
I can see your progress from one taqssim to the other, you should have been working the Moussa's Georgy very hard- It is coming up- does not sound at
all like a new instrument: full, deep with a character- may I ask you how old is it now? is it the same Georgy you posted before- what tension and
what strings- all my moussa's like lowish tension as they have enough projection and the low tension give them resonsiveness and reverb-
if this is your work as a student- how about your teacher, can you post us something from him
congratulations
Markus

Hi Markus. Thanks for the kind words. I'll ask Bassam if he has any recordings to share. He's quite a player.
This is the same oud I've been posting with before; as I recall it was completed last October, so it still has room to grow. Still it's one of the
most versatile ouds I've played and definitely the most versatile oud of that size I've ever played. I've found it sounds dull with high or even
medium tension; low tension is the only range it really likes. I'm also going to try and tune it down as most of the big ouds I've played really shine
at halfstep or even wholestep down. I try to play at least half an hour a day after I get home from work; it really helps me to unwind.

Hi Charlie. The links work fine from here. Try them after a while and if they still don't work I can email you the clips directly.

Thanks Ameer though I managed to connect.
Lovely stuff, I really enjoy your playing and sound.
I'm glad the Georgy works well for you, it sounds great. I like Michael's ouds very much.
Best Wishes, Charlie
