Mal Barsamian at MFA on Venios Oud

Mal Barsamian and Peter Kyvelos gave a presentation at the Boston Museum of Fine arts last week. I wasn't able to go but I understand the museum gave Peter its Venios to set up and put gut strings on. Here is a video of Mal playing:

Enjoy!

My friend who went said it was a Manol but looking at the video and checking the MFA web site, seems it must have been the Venios. I thought there was a Manol in the collection that wasn't usually on display - faulty recollection, need to get back down to the museum for a refresher...

Thanks for posting this!

Freya, it's not completely clear in your post, but in case you don't realize, 'Manol' is the Turkish nickname for Emmanuel (Manolis) Venios.

The Greek master builder of Constantinople/Istanbul of what is known as the 'Turkish' oud, as well as laouto/lavta, lyra/kemence, and other instruments.

Thanks again,

Mavrothi

Just had another listen to that second clip which is sound only and I am completely blown away by the sweetness of the trebles - it's not just the oud I know but it is in the oud if Udi Barsamian wants to go there.

Sublime
