Looking for an oud to hire/buy in Melbourne
Hi everyone,
I'm yet another newbie taking the plunge.
I've found myself an oud teacher in Melbourne, and i've found a very crude, almost decorative-only oud to practice on.
But, I'm keen to see if anyone has anything available in Melbourne that they would be willing to rent to me for a month, with an option to
purchase.
We're still talking basic instruments here, student models, but not toys.
Volaris Music is the only store I've found that sells them, and their singular model is $699, and I don't know how it compares to what else I've read
about on this forum, and elsewhere.
So, if you're able to help me out, please let me know.
Many thanks,
Andrew

so I make my low profile return to these forums by posting a reply on this thread, after many months of not logging in...
This makes 3 of us from Melbourne on this great forum I know of at least
another 4 Arabic oud players here in town, though not sure how computer active they are or if they know of Mikeouds.
There is also an Iraqi oud teacher in the northern suburbs. I think we have a small community evolving.
There are some amazing topics and contributors on here. The amount of knowledge and expertise of some of the members is just phenomenal. Not to
mention the inspiration and enthusiasm that gets passed around. Some of the world's finest luthiers and musicians are on here....mingling with the
beginners, know nothings and everything in between about this wonderful thing we all love called the Oud.
Hope to hear from anyone else out there who might be in Melbourne or Oz interested in ouds, where to buy them, fix them and get strings for them!
Regards;
Sam

Hi, I am also new to the forum and from Melbourne. I am looking at my options for buying my first OUD. I also have checked out Volaris Music however
thought these might be a bit too cheap. Can I ask the other melbournites to message me or suggest places for buying an oud and where /who you are
studying with. It would be great to have some other oud enthusiasts around..
thanks,
TRW

Hi Everyone,
I've since had the oud I was loaned strung, and it's actually not too bad. It's an Al Khalifa from Damascus. It's had a hard life, but it's fine to
learn on.
Thanks to dkhoury35 for your help, and to Melbourne too. It seems that there are a few of us around in Melbourne!
I think I'm going to see how I go over the next few months, and then splash out on a decent instrument. My teacher has a Hatem Joubran oud, and it's
magnificent...
Best,
Andrew

Hi Andrew
Who's your teacher?
The only teacher I know of is a young Iraqi fellow, though I haven't been in touch yet.
