Simon Sannee

Has anyone ever heard of this guy before? He seems to be a Moroccan Jewish oud player, and there are loads of recordings of him on Youtube such as the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSqFGqFsqvA

I can't find any more information at all about him on Google, but maybe there is an alternative spelling of his surname?

David

Maybe ask the M.E/N.A.-oriented musicians and musicologists in Israel, such as Edwin Seroussi (http://www.biu.ac.il/hu/mu/min-ad04/Edwin_Seroussi.html), Amnon Shiloah (http://www.umbc.edu/eol/3/shiloah/bio.htm), and the Renanot Insitutute (http://www.renanot.co.il/renanotE/index.asp). You can try also contacting the Dafina, a web site dealing with things Moroccan-Jewish: http://www.dafina.net/homeenglish.htm There is also Simon Elbaz, a Moroccan-Hewish oudist and singer in France: http://www.matrouz.com/elbaz_.html

Nice taqsim -- thanks for sharing!

Good luck,
"Udi" John

Good idea John. I might try contacting the guy who posted the videos first though, but don't know how easy this will be.

All the best

How do you pronounce that surname in Hebrew?

I'll ask my teacher; maybe he knew him in the past.

A close friend of mine has just send a message to the head of The Andalusian
Orchestra in Ashdod and received a reply that the performer name was
Simon/Shim'3on Tordgman and Sanna'3i is the nickname that stuck to him,
'the professional'.

In some of the clips he plays with Salim Halali and in others with Sami al-Maghribi,
both well-known names. His son, David Tordjman, lives in Bat-Yam but I do not have his contact info.

Nice work!! Looks like it was his son who uploaded the clips to Youtube then. It's a shame he didn't add a short biography too, as it would be interesting to know who his father's teachers were, where he lived etc.

All the best

David
