Invisible Members?

The forum heading 'Who's Online' reveals the identity of forum members that are currently browsing and lists those members who have visited the site during the past 24 hours - with the exception apparently of a class of member designated as 'Invisible'.

What is the purpose behind having 'Invisible Members' browsing the forum, what is their function and who are they?

Just curious

John,

Log off and then go to the login screen to log back on. You will see a check box that allows you to browse the board "invisible."

Why anyone would want to do that is beyond me, but that is how it's done.

Regards,

Greg

Thanks Greg - I had not noticed that option before.

Perhaps some of those who do choose to be 'invisible members' when browsing the forum would care to explain their motive for so doing? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

I don't know if providing comfort to introverts is the purpose of the invisibility feature but there is so much "spying" and gathering of personal information going on through the internet that a feature that offers "invisibility" provides an element of comfort when one doesn't know the ramifications or precise meaning of being visible.

For those who do not post perhaps the feature provides an enhanced sense of comfortable lurkatude.

I like the idea of being invisible.

Invisibility like flying is often near the top of people's favourite super power wish lists :)

All we need to do is put a bag over our heads.

It's a part of our privacy. Do not change that. I must say it is more useful on msn or on facebook, where people mostly use their true identity with related, but it's always better to have it.

By the way, I put my sunglasses, I'm afraid of being recognized by my boss (I'm suppose to work)
