Some older versions of basic Quicktime have a pitch control function that is independent of speed control. I use the "Amazing Slowdowner" from Roni Music.

Transcribe! is my favorite of the programs for doing this. Amazing Slow Downer comes in a close second.

Quicktime can do it, but the results don't sound as good.
Audacity works, but is slower and not as easy to use as the others.

i find the interface of the program 'capo' to be more useful than 'amazing slow downer'.

for flash files, the old version of quicktime 7 still has pitch control (among others) built in...
