Dhafer Youssef
Hi all,
Now I know absolutely nothing about the oud as an instrument, but am a long time fan of Dhafer Youssef and Anouar Brahem, and because of those guys I
really want to get into oud playing.
I presume that Dhafer uses an Arabic tuning because of his background, please correct me if I'm wrong, but could you advise me as to what make and
model he plays?
Many thanks in advance.
Dave.

Welcome Travers!
Dhafer oud is custom made by Faiq Fabel from Iraq (the son of the famous Mhammad Fadel.
P.s. His oud has an internal mic, so the sound you hear is NOT the pure sound of the oud.
Good luck with your quest
The wood might be dead, but the oud is alive.

Hello,
As far as I know, Dhafer Ouds are made by Yarob Fadel (The younger son of Mohamed Fadel), which is now based in Belgium.
This one sure is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2NT3O1dlGY
(You can even see the label on moment in the video)

Do you have any more info on where in Belgium he is located? Does he have a website? The last information I had was that he was based in Tunisia.
Many thanks

Yes, Yaroub, sorry my mistake!
The wood might be dead, but the oud is alive.

Hello,
Sorry I don't have more info about his exact location, but I know one of his friends in Paris so when I'll see him I'll ask for details.

Luttgutt is right about the sound. I would go further and say there is nothing whatever of the sound of this oud in this clip. It is only the sound of
the mic.
