Making your own drill bits from a pin or nail

Hi everyone, please forward video to 2:45, and you'll see a great old method of making your own drill bits. This is good if you broke your bits while drilling holes for the bridge or pegs, and have nothing left. (happened to me before)

He takes a single mill file, cuts the head off of a small nail, then runs it across the file with a heavy and hard piece of wood. This will etch cutting grooves into the pin, and you'll have a drill bit.

This is a great video to watch in general. They're imitating many of the methods early American settlers would have used to make instruments without the presence of electricity.
