Aquila oud strings arabic tuning (CGAdgc) ok for 58,5 string lenght?
Hi folks I'm going to change the strings on my oud, fixed bridge, 58,5 cm string lenght. I want to try aquila strings but dont know if the sets for
CGAdgc works well with an oud with 58,5 string lenght instead of an oud with 60 por 61 cm, any advice?

Hello,
Aquila notes a tension of 39/42 Newton for their sets. going down to 58,5 cm scale the tension is reduced by around 2-3 Newton.
this will be an acceptable tension.
Best regards

Just remember that Aquila labels their sets by an inappropriate standard of what is normal and light.
The so-called "Light" gauge ought to be fine. I have used the trebles from a light gauge set tuned to gg and cc on an Arabic oud with a scale of 58.5
cm and they sound and feel just right. Not too loose or too quiet.
The so-called "medium" ('standard", "normal") might be too heavy even at 58.5. I don't know this for a fact but I would be wary. A few centimeters
shorter than 60 or 61 might not be enough difference to make these safe. If the package says "light" you have nothing to worry about.
There is another factor: Aquila packages a set for DGAdgc and another for CFAdgc and yet another for your tuning of CGAdgc. The C is a different
gauge from the D and the G is a different gauge from the F. Just some more data to keep you confused :-)

Hi,
I used also a full set of Aquila strings (light gauge) on a 58,5 cm Arabic oud and the tension was perfect (but I prefer low tension in general).
regards,
Dan
