Mijana w Aataba

I want to make you all discover a traditional type of lebanese singing called mijana w ataba

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sQhestZUVg

Marwan mahfouz sings here accompanied by (I think) Farid Ghosn the legendary lebanese oud player.

here is another famous traditional kind of poetry singing called zajjal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaNMXJQrOUY
enjoy

Thanks for this, Samir. In the first video, the oud playing is consistent with the sounds I've heard on recordings of Farid Ghosn, the same style of tremolo, and dry attack. I've only seen 2 photos of Farid Ghosn and both were blurry but the oud player in this video could well be the same fellow. A web search turned up what seems to be a recent 50 Euro sale of an EP I bought new for maybe as much as a dollar in the 1960s.

I've seen the second video before, but went on now to explore other zajjal videos. I understand that the verses are spontaneous and that the language is local dialect. But other things are not clear. Is zajal a contest? Is it always sung sitting at a table? Or is that just for the camera?
