Name of Greek Song? Music Sheet Posted...
Yassas Friends,
My oud student really likes this song. It's a Greek sirto I found on the web. I know it's not called "Sirto." Does anyone out there recognize it?
I am pushing my student to do a "recital" in the near future, and would love to know the name of this song, which she really enjoys playing.
Efharisto poli in advance for any info...
Peace out,
"Udi" John

Hi John,
Some parts of this tune sound familiar, but it may just be the version presented here that is not clear to my ear. It might also just be a very
obscure folk song that only a local would recognize. If you know any more details about the song, try searching under generic dance types like
"patinada" and "ballos" in addition to "sirto."
Either way, I think here it is a bit blandly represented, and would sound better with the G sharp throughout, like a tempered Neveser. Try it out and
see if you agree.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Efharisto, Mav. Will try what you suggest. I know that this transcription, like others in the same collection, is pretty "stripped down." In a way,
this is good for my student, because I want to start out with pieces that don't look too "intimidating." I also want to work with her on taking a
basic melody and embellishing it, "lazimah," in Arabic. (Don't know what it would be called in other N.E.-N.A. languages.) We have already worked
through the piece, adding tremolo on the quarter notes, and using hammer-ons and pull-offs to achieve some legato effects. I am using this piece to
work with her on some picking techniques and to practice deadening notes with the left fingers to get a staccato effect.
All the best,
"Udi" John

Hi,
That all sounds good. It seems like a perfect melody for embellishment. What song collection is this from?
Thanks,
mav
