The seller insists that there is no label inside the oud. They have no info as they say they are selling it for a friend. I was told the rosette was a
fake. Also, there is an odd "bump" in the shape of the top in the lower bout. The fact that there is no label inside the oud lends itself to
suspicion.

That looks awesome even if it turns out to be fake. My guess is that it's an old Nahat that could have been put back together by someone who knows
what they are doing like bedrossian.
it would be nice to hear it.

Yes; very attractive. I have never seen a picture of a Nahat that wasn't symmetrical in design though. The strips of inlay on the bowel appear to have
no real symmetry. I'm no Nahat expert, but this, and the fact that there is what appears to be a replica rosette and no label inside the oud leads me
to doubt that it was made by Abdo Nahat. It could be a great sounding oud and it appears to be in very good condition; difficult to put a value on it
at this point. I thought about bidding on it but it is already up to a price that I'm not sure I want to pay for an oud with questionable origins and
no pedigree.

What makes you think the rosette is a replica? Did you talk to the seller?
I agree that the price is at a point where it is fairly risky considering the authenticity is very questionable and we know absolutely nothing about
the playability/action or sound. Even if it is a Nahat (I agree this is somewhat doubtful), there is no assurance that is will sound great. Even the
Nahats made some duds.
It is being sold as a restoration project, so we can assume that it will need some work.

The large rosette looks very white compared to the small ones, and uniformly thick, like plastic. The pictures of Abdo's ouds that I have seen usually
have fine detail in the carving of the rosette if made of bone, at least the name does. Someone I emailed with who has seen a lot of Nahat ouds said
the rosette is, in his words, "fake." I communicated with the seller a couple of times and they insist that there is no information on the oud and
that they are selling for a friend; definitely no label inside. So, it's all speculation on my part Brian. I hope someone on the forum gets it so we
can know more about it. It is certainly a very attractive instrument.

Well guys congrats to whoever won this, I bid up to last second but lost.
Whoever the maker of this oud is, it is clearly very well constructed and preserved. Please give your feedback once you receive the oud if you are
member of this forum!
Thanks

Well, the final bid was rather high . . . I hope it turns out to be a good deal for someone! More than I would have risked on an oud with so many
unknowns. A nice-looking instrument for sure.
I'm not sure about the rosette—in my experience, plastic rosettes are much thinner. Plastic rosettes generally have some identifying
characteristics from being stamped from a mold, etc. Hard to say. It could easily have come from a different oud.
here is another nahat rosette, in this one the central rosette appears a different color slightly but it is just because the lighting.

Yes, higher that I would have gone, but maybe someone got lucky and got Nahat or at the very least a really good vintage oud in what appears to be
very good condition. If someone from here got it I'm sure they will give us an update.
