i have sukar oud and i want to take it proflie Measures and start doing all the calculation for the end blocks.
is that ok to draw the outline of my sukar oud on a paper and take half of it for the profile?
can i be sure the measures will be precise to calculate the end blocks?

if you want to recreate an oud identical to what you have, you can proceed so.
if you want I can send you by e-mail my project (pdf or dwg as you want), made according to the rules of the book of Hankey.
let me know
bye

I think you are referring to my thread that I have reported.
my oud is not built to the exact rules of the book.
I made some changes.
important is that I built neck and the inner block in one piece.
Also the mold is different.
the size of the design are those of the drawing (except for errors!).
I suggest you look on the internet, you will find many interesting sites.
read this for example ...

you can find measures of patter in the book.
if you are comfortable with software cad you would be facilitated.
regarding the wood depends on the idea of oud in your head.
maybe you'd look on internet which oud you like.
in the book you can find advice about wood.
for blocks I used cedrella. in general using wood not heavy and not too hard.

thank you faggiuols, your advice helps a lot.
i have much to learn so i will do my research to be smarter..
the construction you gave me it without the extra depth of the back is that correct?
i have read in the forum about your process with your first oud thank you for shearing with us.
so after all, what do you think it the best way to bend the ribs?
and one more question- how did you made the pattern for the ribs?

dear Nati
answer any questions via the forum is difficult.
I suggest you read the whole hankle's book that explains quite well all procedures.
as I told you before also looks my topic http: //www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=15214#pid10
many of the things you ask now your can understand from reading.
to bend the ribs the best method in my opinion, unless you have a special tool, you bend with the hot gun. you can find the video on youtube.
I did the patter of ribs with autocad cad. I use autocad for work for which it was simple. in each case depends on the number of the ribs of your oud. my oud is 19 ribs.
if you want I can send my draw of my rib!
do you use autocad?

I'm confused by the fourth picture. It appears that you've somehow applied the edge tiles before the soundboard is on ¦ :·o

How/why did you do that?

This is an oud, not a guitar. Part of the characteristic sound of the oud is because of the fragile construction with the face almost floating on the braces, but not connected directly to the rib top edge. Guitar construction belongs on a guitar. You might find your oud sounding more like a guitar.
