Six Course Oud string question
Hello all. I recently obtained an Oud from Cairo which has 12 pegs. I would like to see some kind of diagram of the placement of the strings and
recommended set of strings.

I would note that it is becoming more common with Arabic ouds to put c' and g on one side and d and A on the opposite side, rather than alternating as
in his diagram (though both are still common).
Many ouds have 12 pegs so that you can use them with either 12-string high f'f' tuning or 11-string low C tuning. Just because you have 12 pegs, you
don't have to use them all.
The expected tunings for your oud are:
C FF AA dd gg c'c'
C GG AA dd gg c'c'
D GG AA dd gg c'c'
FF AA dd gg c'c' f'f'
GG AA dd gg c'c' f'f'
Sometimes people will tune one of these down a 1/2 step or whole step.
The first tuning listed is the most versatile for 'classic' Arabic music. The first three are generally interchangeable with the same set of
strings.

I confirm that the strings placement detailed on Oud Café is one of the best.
I've tried many different configurations, and that one gives good results because it avoids string crossings in the pegbox. The oud stays in tune.
"Oud Café" gives you a 11 strings diagram. For 12 strings, you just add another low C in front of the low C.
