Saudi/Hijazi Musicians

Hi Everybody,

I'm in the mood for some Saudi oud music. Can anyone recommend some of the better oud players from this area? I'm especially interested in traditional Hijazi music. If you have any sheet music, that would also be great. I'm interested in it both to listen to and to play myself.

Thank you!!!

how about Mohamed Abdo, and Abdul Majeed Abdullah? This is probably too modern perhaps. It's hard to find them playing just Oud, but Abdul Majeed Abdullah has two albums. I only know of them through spotify...

Thanks! I can definitely start there! If anyone has any more recommendations, please feel free to post. It'll be a couple days before I can practice again and I want to do some listening in the meantime...

Hey:)
I found this CD in Amman a while ago.
It is really good.
No keyboards, just traditional instruments.
Nice variety of maqamat.

My favorite Khaleeji oudist is Abady Al Johar. My favorite recording of his is "Abadiyyat," which is just oud and voice: http://www.melody4arab.com/songs/en_view_songs_3044.htm Except from his selection in the 2005 Muscat oud festival ( http://www.amazon.com/Al-Tarab-Muscat-Oud-Festival/dp/B000HT2J94 ) it appears to be next to impossible to purchase any of his CDs legitimately. So...download away!

Peace out,
"Udi" John
