Excuse me for my ignorance, but why all Turkish oud faces look always quite the same ?

Yours indeed

I would guess, that this gives the Turkish oud an unmistakable identity, and consistency in the appearance, as to what an oud looks like. Think violins, classical guitars. I am not the biggest fan, especially the non mirrored uneven pick guard. I much prefer the arab design pick guards.

Nope. I have two Ramazan Calay Turkish tuning; they look and sound very different. A Dimitris Rapakousios is coming; it looks very different; I don't know yet what it will sound like, as it isn't finished yet :-)
