oud in Morocco!!
Hello dears!
I am probably going to Morocco at the end of February for a couple of weeks.
I'll do mainly Marrakesh, Essaouira and Casablanca. I have few questions:
- Does anybody knows Khaled Belhaiba? I wrote him several times on facebook and through his website but no answer at all
- Any good oud shops and\or luthiers?
- Is there any oud player keen on meeting up with me?
- Is there any good teacher I can take some lessons from?
- any place where I can see some concerts?
Thank you very much!

Hi Daniel, In Essaouira there is Abdessamad Amara who is professor of Oud at the Conservatory of Music in Essaouira. He is on facebook so you could
contact him there to begin. He would be a good initial contact for you. He does not speak english but very good French and of course Arabic.
In Marrakech you can go to the Caffe Clock where they do regular performances and you could meet up with some Oud players and other musos:

Buongiorno!
Check out majidoud.net. Majid Atik has a small shop in Casablanca. I understand he had worked for Belhaiba for a while. I purchased my oud from him
about 4-5 years ago and it is a lovely instrument.
You will need to contact him via his web site, as his shop is a bit hard to find - at least for a foreigner there! He only speaks French or Moroccan
Arabic.
Good luck. You will enjoy being in Morocco!
Ron
