Tuning

I have some f#beadg strings. I take it it is ok to put these on an oud normally tuned to c#f#bead? Or Arabic cgadgc?

f#beadg is not a normal tuning on any set of strings I am aware of.

Is it an old D'addario J95 set? They used to mistakenly list the transposed notes from Turkish notation, in which case the set is really C# F# B e a d'.

It can be used for C G A d g c' Arabic tuning, but it usually won't sound so great.

Brian, you may be right. The make is called Alice and is made in China. Not that reassuring I know. The website is http://www.china-alice.com. With Arabic tuning the tension is really too low so I will go up a step I think. I don't think I risk doing any damage to the oud. It was the only instrument shop in this part of Turkey I found.

Edit: Don't know if the website works actually.
