Oud Strings
I broke a string recently. I'm a very new player. Where is a reputable place to buy strings, are there different brands or types that are better?
Also, my oud was my great uncle's, it's very previous to me. I love playing it, but when I tune the instrument, the wood makes an aching sound. i'm so
afraid I'm going to break it. Is it possible to have the pegs replaced with something like mechanical violin pegs? Something that's easier to tune and
feels like less strain on the instrument.
Lastly, I've never replaced a string before. I've been playing it the way my Uncle had it. Are there tutorials online? Does anyone know of a place in
Chicago or suburbs that can work on an Oud? Maybe I can get a quick hands-on demonstration. I'd hate to string it incorrectly.
Thanks everyone for the help

I bought my last set of strings though http://www.oudstrings.com/
Search you tube for 'how to change Oud strings', not any worse than a guitar
This site is also useful... http://www.oudcafe.com/stringing_and_tuning.htm

I found Navid Goldrick's video very helpful
http://www.oudforguitarists.com/how-to-change-oud-strings/
For the strings try Pyramid orange label arabic oud strings which are low tension and good for older instruments which can't withstand too much
pressure
Great tuturiols on video that I have found invaluable are found here:

Enjoy!

I have an Arabic oud, and a lot of people recommended the LaBella strings, so I bought the Arabic Oud Strings FADGC'F' set from OudStrings.com: http://www.oudstrings.com/index.php?route=product/category&path...
And, they have other brands if you are looking for something different.
I agree with Leila; Navid video is extremely helpful.
I'm not sure about the mechanical violin pegs, but I think the oud pegs are very similar to the violin pegs so you should be able to take your oud to
violin repair shop and see if they can take a look at the pegs and see what's wrong.
Good luck.
