Rosewoods aren't the only woods which have been on the endangered list. Ebony, and pernambuco have also become rare. Please see the video below.

So the founder of Taylor guitars made an important decision that will effect most luthiers, and instruments made around the world. From this point on we will be seeing a lot of ebony with streaks in it. Now for me, this is not a problem. Ebony that has blonde and brown streaks in it has been considered to be a lesser grade ebony. I think ebony with streaks in it is particularly attractive. I actually prefer it! If one has a problem with the streaks, dye and or oil can be used to make a jet black appearance. The shortage of ebony has me thinking of considering other materials such as vulcanized fibre which other makers have used in a good way.

And yes, ebony with color spots are really nice.
